When I was in college I created a Twitter account, which was practically dead for the past 10 years.

Fast forward to the end of August 2022, I decided to take Twitter seriously.

Since then I've amassed more than 29,000 followers, met with inspiring entrepreneurs, and got exposed to exciting opportunities.

Now, I can safely say that my Twitter account is more valuable than my college degree.

Today, I’m going to share with you 5 simple tips you can implement to transform your Twitter account into an authority machine.

Let's dive in: 

1. Identify your content pillars

Think about your areas of expertise and the kind of followers you want to attract. Will they be interested in entrepreneurship, literature, or even cooking...

To be positioned for success, you will need to find the intersection between:

• Your skills.
• Your interests.
• Market demand.

The intersection between these 3, will formulate your content pillars (for example my content pillars are audience building, entrepreneurship & growth marketing).

2. Build a high-converting profile

Stop thinking of your Twitter profile as your personal social media account and start thinking of it as a landing page.

Here are the tips you need to follow:

• Your profile picture: Invest in a professional headshot or use https://pfpmaker.com to create an eye-catching image.
• Your bio: This is the formula that worked for me (What are you sharing + what's in it for others + Why should they listen to you + What are you building/working on).
•  Optimize your profile: The goal is to improve the number of followers you get out of 100 profile visits, starting out here is a formula that works best: 

3. Engage like a pro

Starting out, you won't have an audience to interact with your content.

The good news is that you can borrow your dream audience by following below steps:

1. Find a creator with your dream audience.
2. Follow them & activate post notifications.
3. Be the first to add a value comment. 

4. Consume and create great content

You may ask: "Where do I find content ideas?"

 Among the best places to find ideas are:

• Your day-to-day experiences.
• YouTube (Follow channels in your niche).
• Podcasts (Listen to experts on your topics).
• Medium(Read articles related to your content).

The goal is to transform your knowledge consumption and expertise into content, that can be helpful to others.

Some of the types of this content can be:

• Listicle (Books, Tools, Podcasts, Hacks...).
• Inspirational (Inspire people to with your beliefs).
• How to (Teach your audience how to do 1 thing).
• Results (What are some of the results/things you're building).

5. Double down on consistency & virality

What differentiates the top 1% of creators on Twitter are consistency and virality.

• For consistency, what worked for me is using a scheduling tool. My scheduling tool of choice is Hypefury (it's powerful, cost-efficient & used by top creators).
• For virality, 70% of followers will come through threads and viral threads are the result of a great hook (the first tweet in the thread - see example below).

There are two ways you can go about creating great hooks:

a) Spend time studying hooks by other creators.

Remember,  Consistency is an integral part of this plan, you'll need to stick to it for a long period of time to see results.
